YouTube accounts will now have a harder time making money off of ads thanks to a new tweak from the service. Google’s heavyweight site stated on Thursday, that channels must reach at least 10,000 total views — YouTube counts a view after somebody watches it for about 30 seconds — before they qualify to run ads, which is the most direct way to make money from the online service.

With the new move, YouTube hopes to diminish devious accounts and to curve copyright theft. This comes just two weeks after YouTube advertisers started pulling out due to its commercials being run with offensive videos. YouTube plans to add a review process for new creators to host ads, allowing those who have reached 10,000 views to apply to the program. YouTube will then review the channels’s activity to confirm if it is following the site’s community guidelines and advertiser policies. For now, take a look at YouTube Creator Academy for tips on how to reach 10k views.
